How can I remove carpet tape from ceramic tile?
The bathroom in the house we recently moved into had carpet. The toilet overflowed and required me to pull up some of the carpet. I realized that there is 1" ceramic tile under it and would like to completely remove the carpet and clean up the tile. How do you get rid of the double sided carpet tape from off the ceramic? the tape is brown and hard and no longer holds the carpet. The ceramic is white, but has been made dingy from years of having the carpet over it. What kinds of chemicals/tools would work best , as I would like to keep the tile and make it look new again.

first for getting the tape off, try goo gone. it is a solvent that should loosen the tape. you may even have to scrape a little but the goo gone will help it not be such a difficult job. for the cleaning there are several things i would try. bleach solution, vinegar, ammonia. but try them separately and see which one works the best. use a brush for the grout and a scrubbie for the tile. it will be a big job but it will be worth it when you finish. good luck and have fun.
Try the goo gone and look into a professional that does tile resurfacing. They will come in and deglaze the tile and basically paint it with an epoxy type paint. The finish result is beautiful and glossy, like new tile for less money.
read this site for an idea on what it is. they don’t recommend the floor but i had it done and it turned out fine.
