How do you give a carpet a really good clean?
Years of grime and food have caused the kids’ bedroom carpets to look worse for wear. Some food has even caused the carpet to become matted together in some parts. How would I clean this as I tried with standard stain remover and it didn’t do a thing?!

How can I tell if the carpet in my apartment was recently cleaned?
The management office for our apartment told us the carpets would be cleaned a few days before we moved in. Yesterday (Sunday) was our move-in day, however, the carpets don’t look as though they were cleaned yet. I called the office today and the office maintenance log says the carpets were cleaned, but I’m not sure this is accurate. How can I tell by looking at the carpets whether they were cleaned or not? There are still lots of furniture marks in the carpet and some stains. There are also no lines where the machine would have passed on the carpets. I have two small children who literally live on the floor all day, so I want to be sure the job was done right!
Does anyone know how to make a home-made carpet cleaning solution for a carpet cleaning machine?
I have a Bissell Easy Steamer and would like to know if I can make a home-made solution to clean my carpets. I am hoping for a strong yet gentle solution that will not damage carpet, yet clean dingy areas. My carpet is a dark grey low-pile and my area rug is an off-white medium pile.
Will vinegar alter the color of my carpet? Any other ways to de-odorize a burbur carpet?
I have been told to use vinegar to get the dog’s peepee smell out of my carpet after I clean the area. Every cleaner I have tried doesn’t not completely get rid of the smell, so I want to further de-odorize. I am worried that vinegar will bleach the carpet, though. I am also not a big fan of the smell of vinegar. I have a window above the area I need to de-odorize and two fans to work with, so I can probably manage to get most of the vinegar aroma out the window, but I would rather work with something not as repelling-smelling. Any suggestions? I would really appreciate it! Thank you!
I would LOVE to tear up the carpet, but I live in military housing and they won’t let us do that. I have asked the supervisor at the housing office if there is a way we can arrange to replace the carpet and padding in that area, but I will be charged over 0 dollars to replace an area no bigger than 3×7. Until I can afford to do that, I will have to find other ways. I have a steam cleaner for carpets that works really well at getting the urine out of the carpet, but it still smells so badly. Baking soda is difficult to work with on a burbur carpet, it’s hard to tell when it is all vacuumed up, and when used as a paste, it gets stuck between fibers and when it doesn’t come out completely it dries hard and makes the carpet feel like sandpaper in spots. I prefer to not work with it.

I am going to rent a house that people were evicted from. They did not take care of the house at all. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to effectivly clean the house, and carpets. I am interested in odor remover and stain remover. this house has really old carpet, looks like berber type and I intend to rent a steam cleaner. But are there any home remedies etc, that could also help? The former tenants left rotting food in the kitchen also. I want to get rid of the smells! I am getting first month rent free if we clean it ourselves, so I can’t ask the landlord for help on this. Also, these people were smokers. I noticed the blinds had a lot of dirt possibly nicotine build up etc.

How long after shampooing your carpet can you walk on it?
I am planning to rent a carpet shampooer from Home Depot, does anyone know how long before I can walk on it? It will also be about 65 degrees with the heat on in the house. Do I only have to do it on a day when I can open the windows? And can I walk with clean white socks on the carpet if it is partially wet. My landlord requested to cover 80% of a hard-wood floor with a carpet after my neighbor below complained on footstep noise. They say they may accept rugs but only with padding. I am only able to find pads helping to protect carpets from wearing and stop rugs slipping on a floor but not to cancel the noise. Solution must be cheap. Professional acoustic pads like the ones for sound recording studios are too expensive.

We moved into a new house and found the people that had it before had issues with their cat peeing on the carpets. Right now pulling out the carpet isnt really a option. I have heard about useing white vinager and stuff but will it bleach out my carpet or anything? Right now throughout the house we have a beige/whiteish colored carpet. ( more on the beige side.) Anyone have any hints or tips to get this awful smell out?
